The Nebraska Humane Society says they've recently found a cat who was suffering from a heat stroke.
The three-year-old feline named Joey was found in Bellevue.
After being brought back to the NHS facility, Joey was found to be lethargic and unresponsive to light and visual stimulation.
While recovering in foster care, his visual impairment continued. He also has a head tilt, likely from neurological damage from the heat.
NHS says Joey is now partially to fully blind, and is in need of an owner who keeps him inside and protected from all outdoor hazards that are now a greater threat due to his blindness and head tilt/coordination impairment.
The shelter says Joey's case is a good reminder that intense heat affects both cats and dogs. The best practice is to keep both dogs and cats inside and protected during high heat days.
