Charlie Adams Day will soon be here on September 10, 2022. Lots of great BBQ and plenty of free entertainment.

The Oklahoma Humanities Council has provided a grant for Charlie’s Tellers. These talented storytellers will be in front of the Newkirk Public Library.

Kim Shafer Shanks will portray Mrs. Lucy Davis who made the Cherokee Outlet Run along with her 10 month old baby Hilda and a friend. The two women made the run in a buggy. Mr. Davis refused to come because he felt there would be more homeseekers than available homestead sites. So, Mrs. Davis left him at home with the older children and made the run without him.

Kim Shafer Shanks has appeared as a teller in the past portraying Maude Gribble and Ruth Pohle. Kim does an awesome job and the Newkirk Community Historical Society is excited to have Mrs. Shanks again this year.
