  • The fair is held at the county fairgrounds in Berea

  • The fair is celebrating its 125th year

  • Popular attractions include the Cow Palace, where kids can pet farm animals

The fair, which is celebrating its 125th year, runs through Sunday, Aug. 14, at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds.

Joe Kochera, a member of Ohio 4-H, brought his miniature donkey out to the fair Tuesday for folks to pet and learn more about.

“She’s a gentle giant, really,” said Kochera. “There’s so many people who have never seen a donkey, they’ve never pet a donkey. They come to the fairgrounds and they see all these animals and learn a bunch of new things and it’s fun.”

Kochera is among many area students who spend all year preparing their animals for the fair.

“It’s all preparation, making sure their vaccines are up to date, their coat is good, their hair is fine, their skin is good,” said Kochera.

Kochera said it’s a lot of hard work, but is worth it for him and other 4-H members who light up when given the chance to teach others about these farm animals. “You can’t hate it," he said.
