Alan J. Fierst

Alan J. Fierst, 93, of Luxemburg died at St. Vincent Hospital on Sunday, August 7, 2022, after a short illness.

Alan was born in Antigo, Wisconsin, on November 22, 1928, to the late Alexander J. and Martha T. (Cherek) Fierst, the oldest of three children.  Alan graduated from Antigo High School in 1946 and eventually opened Al’s Sport Stop, a sporting goods store he operated for many years.  He relocated to Tampa, Florida, where he met and married his wife Madelyn (Gibson) Fierst who preceded him in death in November of 1997. Thereafter, Alan returned to Wisconsin to be closer to family.

Alan is survived by his sister-in-law Ruth Ann Fierst of Luxemburg, WI, and her family, Alan’s nephews and nieces: Joe Jr. (Debbie) Fierst of Rhinelander, WI; Jean (Peter) Thillman of Green Bay, WI: Susan (Jamie) Whalen of Green Bay, WI, John (Pam) Fierst of Green Bay, WI, and Ann (Mike) Rohe of Spring Green, WI., and their families.

He is further survived by his brother-in-law Thomas B. Keller of South Yarmouth, MA, and his family, Alan’s nephews and niece: Michael T. Keller and wife (Mary) of West Boylston, MA, William J. Keller (Maria Luisa) of Malaga, Spain, Thomas J. Keller of Brockton, MA, Mark A. Keller (Karen) of Chelmsford, MA, Sr. Mary Veronica, O.P. of Nashville, TN, and James M. Keller (Annette) of Boalsburg, PA, and their families.

Alan was preceded in death earlier this year by his younger brother Joseph M. Fierst (Feb. 18, 2022) and his sister Jacqueline F. Keller (Apr. 8, 2022).

McMahon Funeral Home in Luxemburg is assisting the family. A private funeral will be held and the burial will be at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Antigo, WI.

A special thank you to Marie and her staff at Sycamore Lodge Senior Living in Luxemburg and  Alan’s caregivers on the 9th floor at St. Vincent Hospital and Unity Hospice.
