With increased trash rates in the news recently, a business in Springfield says it can save companies money on trash and help the environment with a simple concept.

Smash My Trash is a business that does just what its name would suggest.

Using a large machine attached to the back of a flat-bed truck, Mike Turner and his team will smash the trash in your roll-off dumpster, compacting what's inside by as much as 70 percent and allowing you to fit in more waste. Smash My Trash says the process also cuts down on carbon dioxide emissions by reducing the number of times your trash has to be hauled off by large trucks.

The business has been around since 2015 and franchised out in 2019, but Turner said his services are more valuable than ever with companies like Republic Services raising their trash hauling rates to keep up with inflation.

This franchise business is across 42 states with 215 trucks worldwide more than 100 franchisees. Turner, the general manager of the Springfield business, said the local operation has prevented 50,000 tons of carbon dioxide from being emitted.

Smash My Trash driver Tom Back operates a machine designed to smash materials in roll off dumpsters on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022.
