MIAMI (WSVN) - An overnight fire on the Miami River left behind a charred 30-foot vessel.

According to City of Miami Fire Rescue, the boat blaze broke out behind the Miami River Apartments, along North River Drive, just before 3:30 a.m., Wednesday.

Neighbors said they heard an explosion.

“When I got up, I saw the boat on fire,” said area resident Jose Pineda. “We called 911.”

Speaking in Spanish, a woman said she was afraid.

Meanwhile, Pineda took out his cellphone and began recording video.

Crews extinguished the fire in 10 minutes and were able to prevent the flames from spreading.

“Immediately, our crews began to form operations to be able to extinguish the fire,” said Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez. “Within five to 10 minutes, the fire was under control.”

The boat sustained heavy damage. The back of the vessel was melted and covered in ash after the fire rescue team used foam to put out the flames.

“They had purchased the boat not too long ago. My understanding is they’d been working on it, doing a lot of work, upholstery work,” said Pineda. “It’s sad to see what happened.”

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
