GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A person is dead after a fatal hit and run in Guilford County.

Two lanes on I-73 southbound at the Groometown Road exit, near I-85, were closed as troopers were on the scene.

Investigators say that Terry Joe Simmons, 63, of Greensboro, was walking southbound on I-73 when they were struck by a black Nissan Altima, a four-door sedan passenger vehicle.

Simmons died on the scene.

Crash reconstruction used car parts found at the scene to identify the Nissan Altima. Investigators say that the sedan will have passenger-side front bumper and headlight damage. They also say that a large portion of the sedan’s passenger side front bumper and lower fog lamp will be missing.

Highway patrol and EMS were called just before 3 a.m. and were on scene for about three hours.
