Fire Damages Winfield Garage And Car Inside Of It On Monday

A garage and vehicle were damaged Monday in a structure fire that occurred in west Winfield.

Around 3:15 p.m., the Winfield Fire-EMS Department responded to a structure fire at 1124 Pecan Lane. The residence was unoccupied at the time and multiple neighbors and a lawn mowing crew saw the smoke and reported the fire, according to fire marshal Chad Mayberry.

When crews arrived, the garage and front porch of the residence were heavily involved in fire. Fire crews were able to get a quick knock down of the fire and fully extinguish it in approximately 45 minutes.

Fire damage was contained to the attached garage and the front porch with minor extension of the fire into the inside of the residence.

A 2004 Nissan Altima along with the contents of the garage were destroyed in the fire. A pickup in the driveway had minor heat damage to the headlights and front bumper.

Winfield was assisted at the scene by members of the Winfield Police Department.

Arkansas City Fire/EMS, Burden Fire, and Udall Fire Departments responded to the scene for automatic aid assistance.

They assisted in extinguishing the fire and overhaul of the fire scene.

Due to ambient temperatures near 100 degrees, an ambulance was set up for firefighter rehabilitation and fire crews were rotated during the fire to prevent them from becoming overheated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
