With the growth of Oakwood Square, Plain Township’s restaurant scene has seen quite a few changes in recent years. From restaurants relocating, new restaurants opening and some closing, it can be hard to know which ones are here now.

This list will help you to know which restaurants are open and worth checking out. I’d advise saving this (whether you clip the print version or bookmark the online version) for future reference.

If you find yourself wanting to see the top spots in every part of the county, stay tuned. These guides, which have highlighted spots in North Canton and Louisville so far, started on July 20. 

Top spots for breakfast in Plain Township

Samantha’s Bar and Grille: In business for more than 25 years, Samantha’s Bar and Grille in the Easton Village shopping center offers delicious, homestyle breakfast and lunch dishes. My recommendation: Whatever is on special.

John's Bar & Grille is a top spot for breakfast in Plain Township.

John's Bar & Grille: A long-time Canton staple, John’s Bar & Grille relocated to Oakwood Square in late 2021. People are loving the new location, which has a similar vibe to the previous one. John’s offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. My recommendation: Cinnamon swirl combo.

Plain Township’s best spots for lunch

Bugsy’s Italian Cuisine: Recently opened in Oakwood Square, Bugsy’s Italian Cuisine offers all kinds of pasta, wraps, sandwiches, salads and sides. My recommendations: Chicken pesto panini, lobster ravioli.

Las Peñas Mexican Grill: Offering a large menu full of Mexican cuisine, Las Peñas Mexican Grill is a great spot for lunch. Choose from a large selection of specials, combo plates and more authentic dishes. My recommendation: Lunch special #7, which is two chicken enchiladas topped with mole ranchero or poblano sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and sour cream.

Best dinner restaurants in Plain Township

Freudy's Bar and Grille: Located next to Samantha’s in the Easton Village shopping center and owned by the same people, Freudy’s Bar and Grille has a more upscale, adult vibe than its sister restaurant. The menu offers small plates, steaks, pork chops, fish dinners, pasta plates, salads, sides and plenty of drinks. My recommendation: Pecan crusted salmon.

The Bistro of Oakwood: The food at The Bistro is “authentic, unique and delicious,” says its website. Focused on freshness, the menu offers a variety of mouthwatering appetizers, salads, chicken entrees, steaks, pork chops, duck dishes, seafood, pasta dishes, sandwiches and desserts. My recommendation: Lemon basil shrimp pasta, Buckeye pie.

Chimi Trio from Tlaquepaque Mexican Restaurant comes with three chimichangas, one beef, one chicken and one shredded beef served with lettuce, sour cream, sliced tomatoes, guacamole and Spanish rice.

Tlaquepaque Mexican Restaurant: Opened in Oakwood Square in September 2019, Tlaquepaque is still relatively new to the scene. The menu offers everything from burritos to enchiladas to chimichangas and all kinds of tacos and more authentic Mexican food. My recommendations: Chimi Trio, Oreo churros.

Top carryout restaurants in Plain Township

The dough at SOL Pie Pizza is made with all-natural, unbleached, unbromated flour and extra virgin olive oil.

SOL Pie Pizza: Sustainable, organic, local is what SOL stands for. From the dough to all the toppings, everything is done with that purpose in mind. SOL Pie Pizza’s menu offers a variety of pizzas, including specialty and customizable pizzas, appetizers, salads, bowls, subs, strombolis and dessert. My recommendation: The traditional Hawaiian.

Kraus’ Pizza: Another Plain Township pizza shop to try is Kraus’ Pizza, which has been in business for more than 60 years. The menu features pizzas of all kinds, buffalo wings, meatball subs, hot subs, chicken, jojos and combos. My recommendation: Kraus’ Topper.

Plain Township’s top spots to treat yourself

Hazel & Rye Bakery Boutique offers all kinds of tasty treats.

Hazel & Rye Bakery Boutique: Now tucked in the corner of Easton Village shopping center in Plain Township, Hazel & Rye has changed locations and offerings over the years. The bakery now offers baked goods to go and wedding and event catering services. My recommendation: Cookie dough brownie or anything in the case.

Almost Heaven Ice Cream: Open year-round, Almost Heaven Ice Cream offers more than 20 ice cream flavors, as well as dairy-free options and ice cream cakes. Check the Facebook page for new flavors. My recommendation: Coffee caramel crunch, cake batter.

Forever Craft Urban Winery: Located at Oakwood Square, Forever Craft Urban Winery has an extensive wine list, including wine slushies and seasonal wines. The winery also offers draft beers, canned beers and seltzers, mixed drinks, bourbon and whiskey and other liquors, as well as small plates, sandwiches, sides, desserts and nonalcoholic beverages.
