What happened on that day?

On Aug. 9, 2021, two Springfield residents and a Houston man were gunned down in a home in the 2500 block of South 10th Street in the Harvard Park neighborhood.

Savante English, 27, and Keyera Gant, 25, of Springfield and Bryant K. Williams, 27, of Houston were shot dead in a house being rented by English, who was childhood friends with Williams. Gant was a cousin of his.

At the time, Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said the three died from multiple gunshot wounds. Springfield police said a friend who had come to the house found them dead. He went to a neighbor's house and called law enforcement.

SPD said that the incident did not appear to be a random act of violence and that those involved had targeted the house for some reason.

Who were the deceased?

At the time of his death, English had been working at a JBS meat processing plant in Beardstown.

Gant worked for Home Instead Senior Care in Springfield. She was the youngest of three sisters, with family saying that she loved and cherished her nieces and nephews, among others. She graduated from Lincoln Land Community College in 2018 before getting her bachelor's in health services administration from Lincoln College just months prior to her death.

Williams was a childhood friend of English who was an aspiring rapper in the Houston area. Going by the name BK Yola, several of his songs are available online.

What happened after the shootings?

Law enforcement eventually centered their investigation around three men – Kelton Galmore, 21, and Joseph Hembrough, 33, of Jacksonville and Larry McClain, Jr., 20 of Springfield.

Galmore and Hembrough were arrested in February in Morgan County, while McClain was arrested in Springfield several days later. Local law enforcement received the assistance of the U.S. Marshals' Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force in apprehending the suspects.

What were the accused charged with?

All three involved in the shootings were charged with three counts of first-degree murder, with McClain being charged with two counts of obstructing justice.

They are being held in Sangamon County Jail awaiting the outcome of their respective cases.
