It looks like Harrisburg High will turn to one of its former state champions and a local veteran coach to take over its boys and girls basketball programs.

Demone Maxwell (boys) and Jeff Chisholm (girls) will be up for approval at Aug. 23rd’s school board meeting, according to the district website.

Harrisburg athletic director Calvin Everett told PennLive Tuesday he could not comment about any impending hires.

Former Harrisburg star Demone Maxwell, shown here celebrating after scoring in the last few minutes of a game against Plymouth-Whitemarsh in 1998, is slated to be announced as Harrisburg's new boys coach at the end of the month.

Should they receive approval though, Maxwell and Chisholm would replace a pair of long-time Cougar coaches who vacated their positions following the past season. Boys coach Kirk Smallwood stepped down on March 26 after an almost 40-year run with the school that included nearly 680 wins, two state titles and nine district championships. Meanwhile, Larry Moore left his position as girls coach earlier this summer after winning 244 games and three district championships across a couple stints with the program.

So there will be big shoes to fill, but Maxwell and Chisholm should both be familiar with Harrisburg hoops.

Maxwell, in fact, is a former Cougars standout under Smallwood and a member of the 1998 state title team.

Meanwhile, Chisholm has a long stint as the head girls coach at Steel-High.
