Fire destroys Blackville house

“It was fully involved when we arrived. It looks like it had been burning a while,” said Blackville Fire Chief Earthel Walker.

Jeremiah Johnson lived in the home for more than 30 years, but was at work at the time of the fire.

“I have to start back over,” said Johnson. “I’m surviving day by day, but can’t give up.”

He is currently staying with his sister in Blackville until he can find another place to live. He welcomes donations to help him rebuild and purchase items he needs, including clothing.

The vinyl siding and a privacy fence at the home next door, which belongs to Blackville Town Councilman Kelvin Isaac, was also damaged.

Chief Walker said they were unable to determine what started the fire.
