Canby: When we root, we root for the Timbers
As the Portland Timbers wind down their season with an eye on a playoff spot, the Timbers Army Clackamas County Frogmen are ramping things up.
The Timbers supporters' group was formed a year ago by Medford transplants Katherine and Bruce Leppek and meets to watch every match at Canby's F.O.B. Taproom. Since its inception, things have morphed quite nicely for the group.
The Frogmen have become a Pub Partner of the Portland Timbers, which comes with some perks and benefits if you show up in Timbers gear. Each game day, Timbers fans roll into F.O.B., sit in front of giant pull-down screen and root for their team.
"We are super excited to be working with F.O.B," Katherine Leppek said. "We now have an official emblem patch. We bring free snacks and sometimes pass out free swag. Steve Puga, owner of F.O.B. worked hard to make sure we were set up to view Fox 12. When it wasn't offered in his original package, he added it just for our group."
Puga's ownership of F.O.B. (Friends of Beer) is rooted in his Oregon roots, and he was only too happy to help bring a taste of the Timbers Army to Canby.
"We are native Oregonians and are proud to be an official Portland Timbers Pub Partner," he said. "We are lifelong fans of our Portland Timbers, and we are Axe Society members. To quote the Portland Timbers website, "Axe Society members are of, by and for Portland, and are the crucial element towards building the team and organization at the center of Soccer City USA."
