EUGENE, Ore. - Being in law enforcement can be a tough job and the families of law enforcement know that better than anyone.
That’s why the local group Sisters in Law created a yearly event to serve the community and show another side of the police.
Sisters in Law, a non-profit, law enforcement spousal support group, created Shop with a Cop for School Supplies in Lane County in 2013.
“It’s a great community event. It gives us an opportunity to bring kids into an environment and have positive interaction with law enforcement officers,” says Ryan Martin, Captain for Criminal Investigation Division, Oregon State Police.
This event is a great opportunity for the community to have a positive interaction with law enforcement and have positive interaction with law enforcement officers. Every year all different branches of law enforcement donate their time to be a part of this event to shop for school supplies with an underprivileged child.
NBC 16's Genevieve Melzer attended Shop with a Cop for School Supplies in this week's Act of Kindness.
This year, Sisters in Law spent over $1,200 on school supplies and Target donated backpacks to every kid.
