On Tuesday the Kalamazoo branch of national, charitable group "Guys Who Give" announced it is nearing a major milestone: a quarter of a million dollars in total donations since the chapter was founded 5 years ago.
Guys Who Give's 150 plus members each commit to a quarterly donation of $100 and at every meeting a local non-profit agency is chosen to be the recipient of the collective prize.
The founders say it's a great way to make friends and support your community.
"Guys Who Give is a movement created to try and empower average Joes from the community, to be able to a massive impact on our non-profit community." said the local chapter's co-founder Cody Livingston. "We're looking for any and every bit of support we can find this quarter to help us reach that milestone of a quarter million dollars."
The most recent donation made by the Kalamazoo Guys Who Give chapter was awarded to the "First Day Shoe Fund," a local non-profit that aims to put brand new shoes on the feet of every kid in need in Kalamazoo County.
Another local charity was being chosen on August 10th.
"A quarter million dollars is a very big impact. It's great to see that my hundred dollars, once a quarter, can make a big difference like that." said Guys Who Give member Don Solesbee. "Some very community-focused individuals are all wanting come together to see Kalamazoo be a better place to live."
The groups is actively recruiting members and volunteers.
