VIDEO: Single-engine plane catches fire after crashing on Southern California freeway

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – The pilot and passenger of single-engine airplane were able to safely escape after they landed on a Southern California freeway on Tuesday – hitting a truck and sending smoke billowing.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the Piper PA-32 was flying to Corona Municipal Airport when the pilot reported engine trouble and landed in eastbound lanes of State Route 91 in Riverside County at about 12:30 p.m.

The plane also hit a truck carrying three people, per KTLA.

Footage shared by the Corona Fire Department showed the plane on fire.

It was taken just moments after the pilot and passenger jumped out of the wreckage, according to video obtained by TMZ.

No injuries were reported. The freeway was closed for "several hours."

The crash is under investigation.
