T-G still accepting donations for Kentucky

The Times-Gazette is still serving as a drop off location for donations intended for the victims of flooding in Kentucky.

But there is an added twist since the original round of donations to The Times-Gazette were collected last Friday and delivered to Kentucky. Anyone donating items at the newspaper now will be entered into a drawing for a $15 Daily Grind gift card plus a free bouquet from Hottle Glad Garden, located at 6159 S.R. 138 west of Hillsboro.

There is also one other change. No clothes will be accepted now at The Times-Gazette offices, located at 108 Gov. Trimble Place in Hillsboro.

Items need by the flooding victims include: construction material, trash bags, batteries, bottled water, deodorant, diapers etc. for babies, non-perishable foods, cleaning supplies, shovels, bleach, gloves, school supplies, etc.

As of Tuesday afternoon the flooding in Eastern Kentucky had claimed 37 lives with two women still unaccounted for.

Leesburg native Wayne Bowman is delivering items dropped off at The Times-Gazette to the flooding victims. His wife, J.J., is from Knott County, Kentucky, which is one of the counties hit hardest by the natural disaster that reports said saw some areas get as much as 8 to 10.5 inches of rain in 48 hours. The water poured down hillsides and into valleys and hollows, engulfing entire towns. Mudslides marooned some people on steep slopes.

Bowman is also collecting donations at Bowman’s Countyline, located at 130 S.R. 124 between Sinking Spring and Latham.

Items can also be dropped off at The Times-Gazette from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For more information reach Sharon Hughes at 937-708-9443 or Ann Runyon-Elam at 937-393-3456.
