BOSTON — The MBTA is just over a week away from shutting down its second-busiest subway line to do repairs. A section of the Green Line is also shutting down for the same reason.
This comes after federal investigators did a safety investigation.
Riders are already trying to make their plans for how they will navigate this month-long shutdown, and some say they are frustrated there is no final plan.
“They have been working on this for about a week, and I would suspect that at some point shortly people will see what the interim plan is for this,” said Baker.
Boston officials say they are working with the T to finalize shuttle routes, determine if bus-only roads or lanes are needed and gathering LED message boards and traffic cones to help direct traffic. With 10 days to go, Gov. Charlie Baker says the final plan has not been finalized.
The governor says the information will go out through news outlets, social media and signage.
“I feel terrible that it has to happen at all, but I am very excited that somebody who has been frustrated by these night and weekend closures is the only way we can do a lot of work on this very old and under-maintained system,” said Baker.
Riders are definitely keeping all options on the table.
“I would definitely go with Uber, or biking if you can,” said a rider.
Boston is trying to secure more Bluebikes. A woman checking one out near the Boston Public Library in Copley Square told us it can be challenging in some areas.
“A little bit where there is no bike lane, especially where there is construction going on,” said the rider.
The MBTA is also still waiting for the final report from the Federal Transit Administration for that safety audit. That is scheduled to be released by the end of the month.
