For many students, next week marks the start of the new school year.
The Kern County Public Health reminds parents to stay up-to-date with their child's immunization cards by hosting vaccination clinics through Friday, August 19.
The health department says that on-time vaccination throughout a student's childhood is critical because it helps provide immunity before children are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases.
But it's also a requirement for students entering transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, and students advancing into the seventh grade.
Most insurances, including private insurance, will be accepted at the vaccination clinic.
"Medical, current Family Health Care, Health Net, most private insurances, and then if a family doesn't fit into one of those categories--please, we want to talk to you. We offer low-income solutions for families, so please don't let that be a deterrent," Public Relations Officer with Kern County Public Health, Michelle Corso, said.
The dates of the vaccination clinic are listed below:
- August 8 –12 from 8 a.m – 5 p.m.
- August 15 -17 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- August 18 from 8 a.m – 5 p.m.
- August 19 from 8 a.m.– 12 p.m.
Although appointments are not required, they are recommended. Those interested in creating an appointment can call the health department at (661) 321-3000.
Walk-ins will also be available on a case-by-case basis.
Kern County Public Health also says that masks will be required at the vaccination clinic. Families may also want to bring their child's vaccination card and insurance(s).
