Officials give update on projects at the Harrison County State of the County Address

It was a packed house this morning inside the IP Casino ballroom for the Mississippi Coast Chamber of Commerce’s annual State of the County Address.

District 4 Supervisor and Harrison County Board President Kent Jones gave an update on projects over the past year.

Jones said Harrison County currently has 982 employees with a budget of $170 million.

He also touched on the excitement of Buc-ees coming to the area and the passenger railroad service.

There are other projects in the works like the Woolmarket walking track, West Harrison County Sportsplex softball field, and Long Beach Harbor volleyball courts and pavilion. Jones said, “When you are an elected official, you want to be transparent. You want the public to know how their dollars are being used and that’s why we have these kinds of things, the state of the county, the state of the cities. We just want to make sure that everybody is brought up to speed on exactly what we are doing.”

The State of the County Address acts as a forum of county accomplishments, concerns, issues, and improvements.
