Raleigh County deputies said a woman was killed when her vehicle collided with a coal truck, and a man died in a separate crash after he was ejected from a utility terrain vehicle.
Susan Flint of Miami Beach, Fla., died in a wreck involving a coal truck that occurred Tuesday in the 1200 block of WV Route 99 in Fairdale, according to a news release from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.
In a wreck on Monday, Randall Z. Bower died after he was ejected from his UTV in a crash that occurred at Fairview School Road and the intersection of WV Route 99 in Fairdale, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said the crash involving the car and coal truck on Tuesday occurred after Flint’s car crossed the center line and collided with the coal truck.
Flint’s car came to rest just off the road in a driveway, while the coal truck ran off the road and narrowly missed a power utility pole and a fire hydrant. The coal truck continued into the woods, striking several trees before it stopped.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles. Flint was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the coal truck had minor injuries and was taken to Raleigh General Hospital for treatment.
In Monday’s fatal UTV crash, the sheriff’s office said, Bower was traveling south on Fairview Road on a UTV when he attempted to turn left on WV Route 99. The UTV was struck after it turned into the path of a sport utility vehicle, ejecting Bower from the UTV. He was taken to Raleigh General Hospital, where he later died.
