There are two scheduled ag tire recycling events in Ashland and Wayne counties over the next several months thanks in a large part to funding provided by the Ohio EPA’s Recycle Ohio Fund. These events are being run independently from each other so be sure to carefully review the details for the county that pertains to you.

The Ashland County Solid Waste District is leading the Ashland County Farm Tire Collection Event. Pre-registration is required and is open. The collection will take place at the Ashland County Fairgrounds on Aug. 30 and 31 at assigned drop-off times for pre-registered individuals.

Only Ashland County farms are eligible to participate. Farms must register the exact number and type (three size classes of 51 inches or larger, 30 inches to 50 inches and up to 30 inch-sized tires) of tires. Size is based on the diameter of the tire. Acceptable materials include: tractor, combine, loader, trailer, pick-up truck, medium duty truck, semi-truck, skid-steer, dump truck, excavator or light duty vehicle on or off the rim. Off the rim is encouraged. Cost is $1 per acceptable tire and there is no limit per farm on how many tires you can register for.

Registration will remain open until Aug. 26 or until the event can’t accommodate more tires. For additional or to register, contact the Ashland County Solid Waste District at 419-282-4338 or email at recycling@ashlandcounty.org.

This Wayne County Farm Tire Collection Event is being coordinated among numerous community partners – Wayne County Farm Bureau, Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District, Wayne County Extension, Wayne County Health Department and Solid Waste District, Stark/Tuscarawas/Wayne Recycling District and the Wayne County Fair.

The event is scheduled for Nov. 19 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds and pre-registration will be required and will open in October. Only Wayne county farms are eligible to participate. Ag tires will be accepted in this collection in size classes up to 36 inches in diameter or 37 inches to 60 inches in diameter. Tires larger than 61 inches and all tires on the rim cannot be accommodated for this collection. Cost will be $1 per 36 inch tires and $5 per 37-inch to 60-inch tires. There is a 50-tire limit per registrant.

Interested registrants can find out more information at the Wayne County Fair at the Farm Bureau or SWCD displays. Details also will be available online no later than Sept. 9 at wayne.ofbf.org.
