As the official day for the start of school is approaching for several schools in Great Bend, the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce is ready to welcome teachers and educational staff back to school.

The 7th annual Great Bend Business Showcase, a teacher appreciation event, will take place Monday, Aug. 15 from 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. in the Panther Activity Center (PAC) at Great Bend High School.

Chamber CEO Megan Barfield said the event gives businesses an opportunity to showcase their products and services to more than 700 employees of the school district, while expressing appreciation for teachers and staff as they kick-off the school year.

"The businesses love the interaction and giving teachers cool things for their classrooms," said Barfield. "There are lots of door prizes that go on. Credit Union of America is our premier sponsor and they always give away a couple of big scholarships to teachers for their classrooms."

More than 50 businesses are registered to have a booth at the showcase.

The showcase is open for all USD 428 staff and Holy Family School, Central Kansas Christian Academy and Barton Community College.
