A representative of a company that owns and operates a cemetery in Eastern Kanawha County said the company has been working to make repairs to a mausoleum that some visitors have raised concerns about.
The condition of Montgomery Memorial Park in London has been getting some attention on social media from concerned visitors. Donna Trimble told Eyewitness News that when she visited the mausoleum on July 31, she saw ceiling tiles hanging down and some had already fallen on the floor or on chairs.
Trimble was also frustrated by the length of the grass and what appeared to be a maintenance truck sitting with its hood up and no one around. The truck could be spotted in the same place Monday while across the road.
In response to Eyewitness News when asked about the concerns, Jeff Lockhart, area vice president of StoneMor, said the company started making repairs to the mausoleum the moment it was notified by a customer. He said that was sometime last week.
Lockhart said the company also has replaced doors, electrical wiring and air conditioning equipment that was stolen.
Regarding concerns about the length of the grass, he said that work is done by a contractor, and the situation is being addressed.
The mausoleum remains closed, and Lockhart said he is not sure when it will reopen.
According to StoneMor's website, the company operates 305 cemeteries and 73 funeral homes.
