Only one candidate qualifies to run for vacant Winterville City Council seat

Winterville will hold a special election in November following the resignation of City Councilman Gary Snow.

Only one candidate qualified: Timothy Pierce-Tomlin. He qualified on Aug. 1, with the Athens-Clarke Board of Elections certifying him as the only candidate on Aug. 3.

The former council member’s seat is set to expire on December 31, 2025, with Snow having served on the city council since 2011. In Winterville, council members are elected for four-year terms.

According to a “citizen spotlight” from the Winterville Gazette, a quarterly newsletter from the city government, Snow and his wife are leaving to be with family in Auburndale, Fla.

The special election will be the same day as the November general election, on Nov. 8.
