The latest litigation is an adversarial proceeding filed Sept. 1 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in White Plains by David and Karen Acker against their brother Mark Acker, by which they seek to block him from using bankruptcy to cancel a nearly $1 million court judgment.
American Airlines will be offering flights between Westchester County Airport and Miami International Airport, but only for the first five months of next year. According to The Points Guy site, service for the 1,118-mile route will begin on Jan. 10, 2023 and run daily through May 3, 2023. American Eagle regional affiliate Envoy Air will operate the flight using a 76-seat Embraer E175 that includes 12 first-class recliners, 20 extra legroom economy seats and 44 standard economy seats.

Norwalk’s Planning and Zoning Commission has approved the application to open Connecticut’s first Wegmans supermarket. The planned 91,000-square-foot store at 47 Richards Ave. was initially announced in March. The store will feature a two-story parking garage, is planned for the current 100,000-square-foot site of MBI’s Norwalk offices, which will relocate to the Merritt 7 complex n Norwalk.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is providing a $100,000 grant to SoundWaters Inc. of Stamford, which will be used to provide students from disadvantaged backgrounds, along with their family members, with the opportunity to participate in research projects conducted from aboard the SoundWaters, the organization’s 80-foot sailing schooner.

The Connecticut Insurance Department (CID) approved double-digit rate hikes for several state health insurance providers. According to a CTNewsJunkie.com report, the increases average 12.9% and are lower than the average increase of 20.4% on individual plans that the providers sought. Insurance Commissioner Andrew Mais stated the rate hikes were necessary in the wake of “skyrocketing” health care costs.
An airport ramp and hangar at Westchester County Airport where multi million dollar corporate and charter jets usually reside played host to 165 dogs and 135 cats that were airlifted after being rescued in Puerto Rico. Fixed-base operator Million Air, which provides services to aircraft operators at Westchester, welcomed the pet rescue fly-in of two Embraer Brasilia 120 twin-engine turboprop cargo airplanes that carried the animals. In addition to sheltering the newly arrived animals in its massive hangar, Million Air waved the usual fees charged to transient and parked aircraft and also provided discounted fuel.

I’ve long wanted to visit Croatia. I edged a step nearer – at least a figurative one – when I recently visited Dubrovnik, the well-established New Rochelle restaurant named for its famed resort city. A proposal to construct a mixed-use building in Beacon that originally was presented before the Covid-19 pandemic hit and then put on hold has been reactivated. Developer Hudson Todd LLC is asking for approvals to construct a three-story mixed-use building with 5,980 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. There would be 18 apartments on the upper floors, nine market rate and nine in the affordable category.
