A Bloomington woman who reportedly ran a red light and caused a fatal crash was arrested on drunken driving and reckless homicide charges as she was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Her SUV collided with a pickup truck Saturday night, killing the 33-year-old driver and seriously injuring his son.

Charity D. Hall, 46, 3790 E. McCracken Way, was transported from IU Health Bloomington Hospital to the Monroe County jail and booked on four felonies filed by the prosecutor's office: reckless homicide, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing catastrophic injury and battery against a public safety official, for allegedly kicking a police officer.

Hall's bond was set at $100,500. Court records show she has two prior convictions for driving while intoxicated, one in Owen County in 2004 and the other in Monroe County in 2006.

Richard L. Compion died from injuries sustained in the crash, which happened at 7:08 p.m. Saturday on Ind. 46 on Bloomington's west side.

According to a police report, Compion was turning left onto the southbound ramp to I-69 on a green arrow when Hall, eastbound on Ind. 46 in a 1998 Toyota 4Runner, drove through a red light.

The SUV hit Compion's 1999 Chevrolet S-10 in the passenger side as it turned. The impact nearly cut the truck in half. It landed on top of a guardrail on the southeast corner of the intersection.

Compion and his 5-year-old son were trapped inside the wreckage and extricated by first responders. Compion died at the hospital despite emergency surgery, and the child is in critical condition at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. A GoFundMe account has been established to help with funeral and medical expenses.
