The plane crash was reported in the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway, just west of the 15 Freeway at about 12:30 p.m. Two people were on board the single engine Piper Cherokee, California Highway Patrol officials reported.

According to the CHP, the plane was on final approach to Corona Municipal Airport when the pilot experienced a possible engine failure and was forced to land on the freeway. The plane hit at least one vehicle, a Toyota Tundra pickup truck, the CHP said.

The aircraft was engulfed in flames as firefighters arrived on the scene, however, no one was hurt, either on the plane or in the truck that was hit.

"It's amazing nobody else was injured," said Edward Pajardo, a witness.

Pajardo's dash cam video captured the plane crashing onto the freeway in thick black smoke and flames.

At least two right lanes of the freeway were shut down, and the Lincoln Avenue onramp to the eastbound freeway has been closed by Corona police. Caltrans cameras on the freeway showed very heavy traffic inching its way past the crash site.

The FAA is leading an investigation into the crash.

Around 7:05 p.m. the CHP said all lanes of the eastbound 91 Freeway were re-opened.
