VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — One of the biggest needs at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes is staffing, but READI grant money is expected to help.
According to Good Samaritan Hospital CEO Rob McLin, all types of caregivers are needed, but especially nurses.
The hospital developed a plan to recruit and maintain nurses by working with local schools and colleges, and now will use READI Grant money to double the number of Good Samaritan’s simulation labs from 2 to 4.
The hospital will then allow students from those area colleges to use the labs as part of the educational process.
“Bring their students into Good Sam. Work in our simulation labs. Work on apprenticeships,” McLin said. “Do all of the things we’ve always wanted to do and these READI funds are going to be an opportunity for us to invest back some of those dollars that I think will be wonderful for our future.”
While the hospital does not know exactly how much money it will receive, whatever the amount will be put toward the expansion costs of the labs.
“There’s about $800,000 in equipment we’ll be purchasing and then there’s construction costs, about a half million dollars in construction costs associated with that.”
The hospital hopes to have the lab expansion completed within a year.
