The Josh Merriman Foundation is returning to Steubenville Country Club for another year of fundraising.
"This year we have 50 teams,” Robert Merriman said. “We have a waiting list of many teams, at least 16 or 17 teams on a waiting list."
Josh Merriman took his own life in 2017. Throughout the years, Josh's family and friends have held the event in remembrance and it has grown tremendously. Due to a high volume of participants, they are going to have two sessions this year. With having a good turnout, there is more money raised to go to the cause.
"We stand for mental health awareness, as well as concussion safety and further those in their studies or research whatever it may be,” Tony Barber said. “So that the young athletes and those here suffering from mental health can be brought more to light."
Money raised goes to Ohio Valley schools and scholarships, local sports medicines and more.
"That raises money for mental health first aid that will be provided for the National Alliance on Mental Health out of Wheeling, and they will be providing classes to every high school sophomore in Jefferson County,” Colleen Merriman explained.
The family said it is very happy about the support of the community and being able to grow as much as they can to spread mental health awareness and help others.
This weekend’s event will have 18 holes, lunch and dinner, gifts and a chance to win a free car sponsored by Team Automotive.
The event starts Saturday at 8 a.m. Even if you aren't able to participate in this weekend’s golf outing, you can help in other ways by calling or visiting its website.
