A 33-year-old man was arrested Monday on drug charges following an attempted traffic stop by an Albany police officer.
While patrolling the 100 block of S Jefferson Street, an APD officer noticed a beige Chevrolet Tahoe traveling without an operable tag light.
The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.
According to a police report, the driver did not immediately stop. The officer says the vehicle slowed down and then drove normally.
The driver drove to the 600 Block of 17th Ave and parked in the rear of the residence.
The driver, later identified as Gregory Trice, did not immediately exit the vehicle.
Police say he opened the door and stated he was afraid.
Trice finally exited the vehicle after officers gave verbal commands for him to exit the vehicle.
He told authorities that he was afraid because he was assaulted by police officers in Colorado in the past.
Inside the vehicle an officers found an open Steel Reserve alcoholic beverage inside of the cup holder, an empty Seagram's Gin bottle on the passenger floor, a green Crown Royal bag sitting under the driver side seat and an empty .25 caliber magazine.
Inside the Crown Royal bag was a bag containing marijuana and a medicine bottle with a crystal like substance inside a plastic bag.
Officers also found a . gray and black 25 caliber handgun with an altered serial number in the center console.
The crystal like substance tested positive for a methamphetamine based substance.
Trice was transported to the Dougherty County Jail.
During the transport, Trice told the officer that he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and he use drugs in order to cope with it.
Trice faces possession of Methamphetamines, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, open container in vehicle, tag light required, and criminal use of an article with an altered identification mark.
