GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A plan to redevelop two vacant buildings in Grand Traverse County is on pause yet again.
The Acme Township Planning Commission discussed a planned development application to turn the former K-Mart and Tom's building on US-31 into a mixed-use development.
After having a public hearing last month, the project's developers were hoping to get the green light at Monday's meeting.
But planning commissioners said they need more time to go through different conditions for the application that were presented to them Monday night.
"I'm fine with working some of these things out to the best of our ability but not having the ability to digest it I think is short sighting the people that live in our community. I understand that you're on a timeline, but I've said this a million times, local government moves slower than molasses," said Karly Wentzloff, chair of the planning commission.
The proposed project includes apartments, a fitness center, pickleball courts, self-storage and warehousing, and a new headquarters for a local business.
The planning commission scheduled a special meeting for August 22 to continue the discussion.
