After a very dry July, where only 0.17 of rain was recorded at the Portland International Airport, some parts of the metro area saw their first raindrops since August 1 early Tuesday afternoon.
Rain was seen in road cameras in southwest Portland, in Sandy, and in Beavercreek in Clackamas County. Some metro locations have seen off-and-on rain since the morning.
The early afternoon showers were likely to make it up to the airport, where the National Weather Service office is located, and should measure at least .01 before it lifts north into Vancouver, according to weather service meteorologist John Bumgardner.
The last time Portland recorded a trace of rain was Aug. 1.
The metro area will have an additional shot at rain later Tuesday evening when another band of showers is likely to move through between about 6-9 p.m. Thunderstorms are more likely with the second band and might be seen in the metro area, although locations nearer to the Cascades have the greater chance.
Portland could see isolated showers continue through the evening with another slight chance early Wednesday morning. Wednesday will also be the coolest day this week with daytime high temperatures unlikely to crack 80 degrees.
Thursday and Friday will be dry, and temperatures should rise back up into the mid 80s.
