The U.S. Forest Service - Willamette National Forest has announced an emergency area closure for recreation sites near Waldo Lake due to the Cedar Creek Fire.
The fire is located about three miles west of Waldo Lake, north of Highway 58 and 12 miles east of the community of Oakridge.
The Cedar Creek Fire is at 3,234 acres and 0% containment.
According to officials, the entire Waldo Lake Wilderness area is closed and includes all trailheads and dispersed camping west and north of Waldo Lake.
The closure includes but is not limited to:
- Blair Lake and Skookum Creek campgrounds
- Forest Road 2417 and Forest Road 1934
- West side of the Jim Weaver Loop (Waldo Lake) from the Shadow Bay boat ramp to Forest Road 4636-514 and Erma Bells located in the Three Sisters Wilderness
The lake itself, campgrounds and trails (including the Pacific Crest Trail) on the east side remain open.
Campfires are still prohibited on the entire Willamette National Forest.
