ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) – The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is still searching for a woman who they say assaulted a Meijer cashier in Rochester Hills last week.

Authorities told WWJ Wednesday afternoon they have identified the suspect, but did not release her name. The case is expected to be presented to prosecutors on Thursday. A spokesperson says authorities will be seeking misdemeanor charges for the Aug. 1 incident.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says it all unfolded shortly before 6 p.m. that day at the Meijer Store on Market Place Circle when a cashier told the woman she had too many items to use the self-scan checkout lane.

The suspect, who was with two young females, told the 55-year-old cashier she had two separate orders, as one was for her daughter, the sheriff’s office said on Tuesday.

The suspect apparently finished checking out while the cashier took a restroom break, officials said. While the cashier was in the bathroom, she heard someone speaking and looked through an opening in the stall to see what was happening.

That’s when the suspect allegedly kicked open the locked stall door, which hit the cashier in the head.

Officials say the cashier composed herself and then looked out to see if the aggressor was still in the bathroom. She noticed she had exited.

But when the cashier left the restroom, officials say the suspect was waiting outside and confronted the cashier, grabbing her by the hair and throwing her to the ground.

The sheriff’s office says the suspect punched the cashier repeatedly on the ground, before leaving the store with the two young women.

Officials said a chunk of the victim’s hair was found lying on the ground near the scene of the attack.

The cashier declined medical treatment at the scene, officials said.

The suspect drove away in what appeared to be a late model green Chevrolet Traverse, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who can identify the woman to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for tips leading to the suspect’s arrest. All Crime Stoppers tipsters will remain anonymous.
