(Harlan) Shelby County Public Health Director Lori Hoch says they’ve teamed up with the Salvation Army and Variety Distributors to offer free fans for people without air conditioning.
“We are fortunate; our community partners are looking out for us and want to help us,” said Hoch. “They know we offer fans to the community each year for those needing that kind of support.”
Hoch says the Salvation Army reached out to Public Health, asking them if they needed anything. “I said sure, so they helped write a grant; we received some fans through that,” said Hoch. “Most recently, Variety Distributors reached out and offered fans coming from some damaged boxes. The company could not sell them, but the fans were in perfect shape. Variety Distributors is another good community partner, and they have reached out to us several times. I appreciate that sort of thing.”
Hoch says anyone needing a fan can call Public Health at 712-755-4422 or come to the office at 2712 12th Street in Harlan to request a free fan. There are a total of 58 fans available, and one fan per family will be provided on a first-come, first serve basis.
