Volvo And Starbucks Install First EV Chargers In Provo, Utah

Back in March, Volvo decided to partner with Starbucks in order to set up a corridor of EV chargers between Denver, Colorado, and Seattle, Washington. Now, the two companies have announced the locations of their EV charging stations.

The first one is the Starbucks at 979 S University Ave. in Provo, Utah. Four DC fast charging ports have been installed there, which Volvo says can get a C40 Recharge from 20 to 90 percent charge in about 40 minutes.

Another 15 locations (listed below) have been selected in order to provide EV drivers with an opportunity to charge roughly every 100 miles (161 km) along the 1,350-mile (2,173 km) route. The corridor connecting the two cities, meanwhile, was selected to support a previously underserved route that passes six national forests.

Drivers following the route will come close to some of America’s most iconic destinations, including the Snoqualmie Pass in Washington, the Snake River in Idaho, and the Arches National Park in Utah. It will also connect outdoor hot spots like Vail and Park City.

“Partnerships like this are hugely important as we continue to move towards a more sustainable, electrified future,” said Anders Gustafsson, President and CEO, Volvo Car USA. “Together with Starbucks and ChargePoint, we are creating an EV charging network that can fit seamlessly into everyday life.”

The charging stations are being supplied by ChargePoint, and they will be open to any vehicles with a standard CCS1 or CHAdeMO charging port. Volvo’s customers, though, will be offered power at a discounted rate or, in some instances, for free.

“With Volvo and Starbucks, we’re creating a premium EV driving experience between the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Northwest with Starbucks and Volvo Cars,” said Pasquale Romano, CEO of ChargePoint. “Through our partnership, EV drivers will have the opportunity to quickly fuel their vehicles at Starbucks locations along one of America’s most scenic byways.”
