Penn State Football: Defensive Lineman Tomarrion Parker Decommits

Four-star defensive lineman Tomarrion Parker decommitted from Penn State football’s Class of 2023 Tuesday afternoon, according to a report from Chad Simmons of On3 Sports. Parker retweeted the report, confirming its authenticity.

The Phenix City, Alabama edge rusher originally committed to the Nittany Lions in June. At the time of his commitment, 247Sports ranked Parker as Penn State’s third-best recruit.

While On3’s report indicated Parker has not ruled out Penn State as his eventual landing spot, the probability of a return seems low. Days after committing to the Nittany Lions, Parker took an official visit to Michigan State. He has additional visits scheduled to Florida and Tennessee in October, according to 247Sports.

James Franklin and his staff have dealt with multiple decommitments in the 2023 recruiting cycle. In a span of two months, the Nittany Lions lost three-star offensive lineman Joshua Miller, four-star quarterback Marcus Stokes, and three-star wide receiver Yazeed Haynes.

Another potential suitor for Parker is Georgia. Though there is still no word on any impending official visit, Georgia was originally seen as Penn State’s largest competition for Parker’s commitment. If Parker were to flip to the Bulldogs, he would be the third to do so in as many months, joining the aforementioned Miller and Haynes.

As it stands, Penn State’s Class of 2023 will not fall in the rankings. With Parker’s departure, 247Sports’ class calculator still lists the Nittany Lions as having the No. 10 recruiting class in the country, although the gap will drastically shrink.
