Fort Myers man, 59, dies from injuries sustained in Monday night single-vehicle crash

A 59-year-old Fort Myers man died Monday night from injuries he received earlier in a crash along American Colony Boulevard.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a Jeep driven by the victim was northbound on American Colony shortly after 7:30 p.m. approaching Sovereign Drive when it traveled off the roadway and onto the shoulder where it collided with a tree.

The driver died later at Gulf Coast Hospital. A 34-year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries.

The Patrol's Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating.

The fatality is at least the 78th death on Lee County roads in 2022 according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
