Luke Fickell and the Cincinnati Bearcats face Arkansas in a much-anticipated matchup scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3. It’s a tough SEC matchup against a team that is on the rise.

On Tuesday, Fickell appeared on SportsCenter and discussed all things Bearcats, including the Week 1 showdown in Fayetteville:

“The last two SEC teams we’ve played, it hasn’t been as good. For us and our guys and this entire program, they know what to expect,” Fickell said. “I wish I could tell you (what this team is) right now. Our whole idea is just be us. I’d like to tell you what us really is, but that’s what these next days really are. … We go out to a camp for about 20 days and that’s when we develop what that us really really looks like.”

Cincinnati faces a rough situation at quarterback with the departure of Desmond Ridder to the NFL. The starter will come down to Evan Prater and Ben Bryant.

“I don’t know that it’s fair to say who’s ahead or who’s not ahead,” Fickell said during the spring. “We know that going into fall camp it’s going to be a competition. Those guys have got to work together. Hopefully we can figure that thing out by the time the season rolls around.”

One of these quarterbacks is hyper-mobile, while the other is mostly a pocket passer, so Cincinnati will have to pick its poison as it prepares to face a schedule with tough opponents. The Bearcats open the season against the Razorbacks on Sept. 3 in Donald W. Razorback Stadium at 3:30 p.m. Eastern.
