NESCOPECK, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Harold Baker returned to the scene of the fire that killed 10 family members early Friday.
The investigation into a fire state police call a “complex criminal investigation” that killed ten people, including three children, continues in Nescopeck.
This close-knit community is still trying to come to grips with the loss of 10 people on First Street. While they mourn and come together, they also want answers as to why and how it happened.
Eyewitness News spoke with Harold Baker, 9 of the victims were all members of his family, and he’s now planning their funerals.
“I realized when we pulled up that it was my family’s house. We tried to get in every way we can it was just already fully involved when we got here,” stated Baker.
Harold Baker was one of the first firefighters on the scene early Friday morning. He saw the intense flames engulfing the home on First Street in Nescopeck.
“We were hoping there was when we got I tried to go in the back door. I couldn’t get in there. I was fighting the fire coming outside. The whole back was fully involved,” explained Baker.
Baker tells Eyewitness News three adults were able to escape the flames but three children and seven adults were not so lucky, including Baker’s 19-year-old son Dale, 22-year-old daughter Star, and a young grandson, niece, and nephew.

“Me and my wife we wake up crying we go to sleep crying.. wishing our kids were here,” Baker said.
We asked Baker if he has any idea what may have happened to cause a fire such as this.
“That part of the fire I could not speak about right now, because it’s under investigation. Do anything about how it started or anything like that I can’t give out,” explained Baker.
Eyewitness News reported on Friday we know that a man was taken into custody by police at the scene that morning. However, investigators are not releasing details about that individual.
The funerals for Baker’s son and daughter will be held this Sunday in Nescopeck.
