The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for St. George, Zion, and Washington County for Tuesday afternoon.

The storm is moving from the south and moving toward Southern Utah. There will be scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day lasting from about 1 p.m. to midnight NWS Meteorologist Nicole Desmet said.

Areas such as small canyons, dry washes, and slick rocky areas will be prone to flooding during the showers and the NWS is advising hikers to be prepared for fast-moving water and to possibly reschedule plans. For vehicles, the “turn around, don't drown” is a good motto to keep in mind and to avoid any flooded roadways.

“If you're planning any outdoor recreation please check in with a local authority. If you are planning an outdoor hike or if you're doing anything outdoors please be monitoring the weather,” Desmet said.
