Katie Holmes's latest outfit is a master class in styling effortless basics.

Yesterday, the Dawson's Creek alum was spotted out and about in New York City, accompanied by her boyfriend, Bobby Wooten III. For the casual outing, Holmes opted for a minimalist outfit composed of different shades of blue. The ensemble included a light blue short-sleeved button-up, classic dark-wash straight-leg jeans from A.P.C., and a pair of cornflower blue ballet flats adorned with tiny bows by Yuni Buffa.

She added a pop of color through her accessories, toting around a maroon cross-body bucket bag, also from A.P.C., and a black shoulder bag with white stitching.

Meanwhile, Wooten also looked stylish, wearing a cream-colored T-shirt, khaki pants, and white sneakers. He carried a black backpack and caramel cross-body.

Holmes previously talked about melding fashion with her career in an interview with BAZAAR.com.

"It's really come with the job of being an actor," she said. "I directed two films back-to-back this year, and I did the costumes as well, which made me appreciate my friends who are costume designers and all the costume designers I've worked with in the past. It made me appreciate silhouettes and cuts and color in a way I thought I had, but when you put it on camera, when you are trying to tell a story, you can see how clothing can do a lot of the work for you."

As for her own personal style, she said, "I love my T-shirts, and I love my vintage T-shirts. They're so yummy. They're a little dirty, a little stained or whatever, and that's me."
