A Brookville High alumni said she can finally sleep at night after returning a due library book back to the school nearly 50 years after it was checked out.
Casey Templeton said their mother, Vickie (Bomar) Noell graduated from Brookville High School in 1976.
In 1974, Noell checked out a book, called "California Gold Days" by Helen Bauer, she forgot to return.
Templeton said for years it has been on Noell's conscience and she had all intentions of returning it.
The book resurfaced each time Noell moved but quickly fell off her to-do list when other things came up---until this August.
Last week, Templeton said Noell was traveling to Lynchburg for work and used the trip as a chance to set things right.
Noell was able to walk through what she called "nearly unchanged hallways" back to the library counter and slide it back to the librarian--48 years later.
"My mother is a very principled and proud woman who can now sleep more soundly knowing she is square with her alma mater," Templeton said. "I could go on for days about her character."
