The United Way of Eastern Utah is hosting a Soles 2 Souls Pop-up Shoe Shop on Saturday, August 13 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Price City Peace Garden. Castle Country Radio had the opportunity to sit down with Executive Director, Pam Boyd to discuss all the details of the shoe program.

There are many children in our area that are unable to obtain brand new shoes for school and the Soles 2 Souls Program helps with those needs. “What we do is we will give free shoes to any kid who needs them and we usually get referrals from school teachers, school counselors, principals, and kids are referred to the program. We hear about them we get them a pair of shoes,” said Boyd. The program assists many children in the area whose families don’t have the means to purchase new shoes for the school year.

The Pop-up Shoe shop is a first for our area and officials feel that it’s a great way to distribute shoes to children in need. “So we decided we could try something new this year and that’s what Soles 2 Souls is this year and we’re doing a pop-up shoe shop. Come by the Price City Peace Garden on Saturday, August 13 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and we will give you a pair of shoes for back to school. To start kids off with a new year in a great way,” stated Boyd. The program is still accepting shoe donations for the cause and individuals/families can drop off brand-new, any size of shoe to any banking institution in Price.

The annual Day of Caring event is set for Saturday, September 10. “It is my first one and I’m really excited about it. I’m excited about the energy I’m hearing. We have veteran people here to show the way and they’re giving great guidance, great ideas. The sense of pride and ownership that people have with this program is really wonderful to see,” said Boyd. The Day of Caring event is one of the largest single day of volunteerism in Carbon County and projects include cleaning up yards or lots, garbage pickup on trails, painting at the parks and many more.

If you know of a project that needs attention in the area you can visit the United Way of Eastern Utah website to submit a Project Application. “We have a project application; you can get it on our website which is https://www.uweu.org/ and/or you can call me up which is you know (435) 637-8911 and we will talk it through.
