Back to School Plan approved for Madison Central School District

The Madison Central School Board approved the district’s Back to School Plan for the 2022-23 school year during its regular meeting on Monday.  The Back to School Plan is a document that the district is required to have in place regarding its plans for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, and is reviewed by a committee.

Superintendent Joel Jorgenson told board members that one of the biggest changes the committee recommended has to do with contact tracing.

Jorgenson said that they will handle positive COVID-19 cases the same this year, and the student or staff member will need to be out for five days.  He said that at this time, the only time face coverings will be required is if someone is returning after a positive test or if the school building’s number of active COVID-19 cases reaches above five-percent of the school’s enrollment.

Jorgenson said he does have concerns about staffing if too many are out with positive cases because the district does not have a lot of substitutes to fill in if that happens.
