JOHNSON COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) - A Dublin man has been arrested for firing a gun at a Johnson County football game.
In a media release, the Johnson County Sheriff's office says 27-year-old Joshua Jerome Russell began randomly shooting a gun into the air on Herschel Walker Drive just outside Lovett Stadium in Wrightsville. It happened while a scrimmage football game was being played between the Johnson County Trojans and the Wilcox County Patriots.
Johnson County Sheriff Greg Rowland says there were several hundred people at the game, along with around 100 high school football players, coaches, band members, cheerleaders, and other staff, all on the field.
Rowland tells WGXA News deputies, officers, and security staff at the game immediately saw Russell and ran towards him, getting him into custody. Meanwhile, school officials worked to secure the field and escorts everyone on the field to safety.
Rowland faced multiple charges, including:
- Felony Aggravated Assault (multiple counts)
- Felony Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime (multiple counts)
- Felony Reckless Conduct
- Felony Cruelty to Children, 1st degree
- Felony Carrying a Weapon within a School Zone
- Discharging a firearm near a highway or street
- Criminal attempt to commit a felony
- Inciting a Riot
- Several traffic violations
