SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities  investigating a weekend officer-involved shooting identified the man who was wounded as 38-year-old Travis B. Davis, according to Wichita Police Capt. Jason Stevens.

Early Sunday, police responded to a domestic violence call at a home in the 4800 block of North Seneca in Wichita.

Family member reported to police that Davis had arrived on a motorcycle, threatened family members with a gun, broke windows on two vehicles with an axe and fled the scene.

Officers took the report and traveled to the 4500 Block of West 45th Street North where Davis lives in an attempt to arrest him for the alleged criminal damage and domestic violence, according to Stevens.

Officers couldn't find him and left with the intention of issuing a ticket for his arrest.

Just after 9a.m. Sunday police responded to the same address in the 4500 Block of West 45th Street North for a domestic violence with a weapon call.

Family members and witnesses told police Davis pointed a hand gun and threatened a family member. He then went outside and family members heard what they believed were gunshots.  He damaged additional vehicles with an axe.

As police arrived the second time, they learned Davis had barricaded himself in a shed on the property.

Officers attempted numerous ways to contact Davis and were unsuccessful, according to Stevens. The officers also saw Davis in an open door of the building carrying a handgun.

Just before 10:30a.m., Wichita Police Department negotiators arrived to help. However, Davis continued to refuse to come out of the building and was heard making verbal threats to the officers, according to Stevens.

After the SWAT team arrived, attempts continued to communicate with Davis to resolve the situation peacefully. Officers used a less lethal bean bag weapon and considered deploying a patrol dog to assist in the arrest.

The suspect began firing shots from inside the shed. He fired multiple shots, one of which struck a Wichita police vehicle.

A Wichita police officer fired a single round striking Davis and incapacitating him.

He was then removed from the shed and transported to an area hospital by EMS in critical but stable condition. He remains under guard by police and under arrest. The officer involved in the shooting is a 28-year-veteran of the Wichita Police Department, according to Stevens and is on administrative leave during the investigation. The KBI is assisting with the investigation.

In May, Davis was the suspect of criminal threat against two deputies in McPherson County, according to Stevens. He had also been accused of firing a gun at the home of a relative. On May 30, he was arrested for those incidents.
