75-year-old man dies after crashing on Route 688 in Pittsylvania County

Authorities say the crash happened on Aug. 7 at about 8 a.m.

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police is investigating after a 75-year-old man lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in Pittsylvania County.

Authorities say it happened on Sunday, Aug. 7 at about 8 a.m. on Route 668 near Route 761 and involved 75-year-old Elijah Baker Slayton, of Gladys.

We’re told he was driving south in a 1998 Lincoln Navigator when he ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, crossed the road and flipped over.

The victim died at the scene. Authorities report that he was not wearing his seat belt.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
