BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A drive-by shooting at a Bellingham park led to an arrest over the weekend.

Bellingham Police Officer Chad Cristelli said that witnesses saw the suspect, 18-year-old Nelson Polanco, step out of a car at Waypoint Park last Friday night, August 5th.

Polanco is accused of firing at least eight rounds into the air before getting back in the car and attempting to leave the area.

However, his efforts to escape were hampered after the car got stuck at a railroad crossing.

Investigators recovered several guns, shell casings, and illegal drugs from the vehicle.

Polanco was released on bond from the Whatcom County Jail on Sunday night, August 7th.
